Donuts are a delicious treat. Seriously, who doesn’t like donuts, they’re sweet, delicious, and come in a variety of flavors. You can get the mouth-watering chocolate, cinnamon or your special flavor covered in icing sugar.

You may want to spread the love and share it with your pooch. But before you do, you may probably wonder, can dogs eat donuts especially since donuts are filled with both sugar and fat.

Seriously, can dogs eat donuts?

The quick answer is perhaps. Donuts are high in sugar, fats and are fried using unhealthy oils. These ingredients are hazardous to your dog if consumed in large quantities. Dogs may experience diarrhea, vomiting or severe indigestion which can be unpleasant if not fatal. This is especially true if the you dog is small. If your dog ate a small quantity it may be ok.

Donuts are a lovely treat for humans but for our cute furry friend they are not and you should not feed them to your dog. That’s if you really love your dog. They are man’s best friend, therefore, we should treat them well and be our dog’s best friend.

So if you wondered if you should give donuts to your dog. The simple answer is, no you shouldn’t. You may love to spoil your dog but there are healthier ways of treating your pet than feeding them with food made for people.

Let’s be honest here, just for a second, donuts are unhealthy for humans much less for the dog that has a much smaller body mass.

Simply put, donuts are not good for the dogs, it is unhealthy humans if overly indulge in eating it and may wreak havoc on the dog’s system.

There Are Certain Things In A Donut That’s Not Healthy For Dogs?
The typical ingredients that form the base of a donut are Flour, Sugar, Eggs, Butter, Yeast, Oil, Salt, Milk or water, and flavorings, none of which are good for the dogs’ constitution.

The butter, milk, and flavoring variations include dairy in them, which is not good for many dogs’ digestive systems and may cause problems especially if the dog ate a lot of it.

Oil is good for dogs, but only in small quantities or if it’s an oil that is high in omega-3 fatty acids. Donuts don’t typically use oils that are healthy but instead oils that are additive for dogs.

If you give your dog a small piece of donut, will it kill your dog?
The simple answer is no. Unless your dog has a severe allergic reaction to an ingredient(s) in the donut. The alergic reaction may be made worst if the dog ate a large quantity of donut.

Chocolate covered donuts are bad. If your dog ate donuts with this topping, you should monitor the pet carefully.

If the donut your dog ate is of the chocolate variety you should monitor your dog carefully as your pooch may experience more digestive reactions because of the chocolate.

Perhaps, if your dog has any wheat or milk intolerances, they may begin scratching their skin and have a very upset tummy. It is the quantity of fat and sugar in the donut that will trigger those issues in the dog. The effect is more severe in smaller dogs.

Can dogs eat donuts: Precaution

You might desire to take them to the veterinarian if you have an extremely little pet and they consume a really big volume of donuts. The quantity of fat and sugar in the donut will trigger more issues in them than in bigger pet dogs due to the fact that of their little size.

Can dogs eat donut you make at home?

You can spoil your dogs with homemade donuts made specifically for your dogs. The donut style treat should be make with all the ingredients that are dog friendly.

Ingredients in donuts to be mindful of?

There are contain ingredients in the donuts that you need to be mindful of. These ingredients may be harmful to your dog. Look out for these things and not put your dog’s health and well-being in danger.

Artificial Sweeteners are a substitute to sugar, donuts may be made with one such artificial sweeteners called xylitol. Xylitol is used as a sugar alternative. You may not see this product on the donut packaging but it is extremely harmful to dogs if consumed in large quantities.

Chocolate toppings can be extremely hazardous to pets especially the milk chocolate variety normally included in the donut as toppings. The risk of ill health is higher for smaller dogs. However, baking and dark chocolates, which typically appear in the real donut, are a lot more harmful.

Donut toppings on top of your donut can be harmful to dogs also. While peanuts are safe for pet dogs, numerous other nuts might not be. Nuts such as walnuts and macadamia nuts must not be fed to your pooch. Raisons are no better for you best friend and can be hazardous for pets

Donut fillings might consist of sweetening agents that may be threatening to canines. Who knows what ingredients are used to make these fillings and who knows what harm they could do to your dog. Check these ingredients carefully to ensure that the ingredients are not harmful or are as safe as possible for your canine.

Conclusion

With the question of, can dogs eat donuts, the final conclusion is for you to skip the regular donuts made for humans and get a more suitable dog-friendly treat? There are better healthier treats for you to give to your dog. Donuts made specifically for dogs are made without excessive fat, sugar, and preservatives present in the type made for humans.

OK so I am no bugs Bunny but I do love carrots a lot, while carrots are great for humans I often wondered whether they are nutritious for dogs as well?

Before I had got my pup home I had done a wide search online on all kinds of topics related to dogs, on what they can eat and what they can’t, one of these searches was about Can dogs eat carrots?

As it turns out, yes they can, as carrots are extremely healthy for our beloved pets as they are for humans.

It’s natural to wonder if dogs can eat carrots because the combination of dogs and carrots sounds so absurd, sure if it was rabbits and carrots then we would have agreed in a jiffy.

If you have recently become a dog owner you surely must be researching the best food to give your pup and it might have landed you here because trust me I have been in your place too.

If you are already a proud owner of an adult dog then you surely would love this information. Many of us refrain from regularly giving commercial dog treats to our pet not because we can’t but because we are not sure.

Read more: Can dogs eat potatoes safely

No matter how easy it is or how cute the product looks and sounds it’s not always healthy sometimes certain treats don’t suit our buddies and we land up going through a large variety of products before landing on the one our furry pal gives a nod to.

So we look for easy alternatives that are not only healthy but easily available at home, something we both can share.

Dogs also have a sweet tooth like us but unfortunately, we can’t give sweet products to our dogs, it’s not good for them and neither for us. Lucky dogs love carrots which are naturally sweet and crunchy making it a perfect treat for dogs.

But before you start giving your hungry pet some carrots, make sure your pet is not suffering from diabetes or any other sickness.

Always consult your vet about this as the natural sugar present in carrots might be harmful to dogs suffering from diabetes. If your dog is fit and fine then carrots can be a great addition to the list of treats you give your pet.

So in what way is carrot good for dogs?

Packed with Vitamins:

Well, the answer is many ways! First of all carrot is a great source of vitamins (call it a powerhouse of vitamins actually), it contains vitamins like A,C,D,E,K,B1 and B6 (phew! So many).

Carrots are simply awesome for dogs. Vitamin A helps your dog’s immune system along with improving the softness of its coat and skin. Though it won’t help to improve eyesight in your dog but it slows down the degradation in vision.

Learn more: Can dogs eat fish bones

Solve digestive problems:

Now digesting carrots might seem a problem as dogs don’t digest the same way as we humans do but it is also a known fact that every human food that is good for dog needs to be given in moderation and that too in bite size (boiled works great).

Carrots are really good for dogs suffering from an upset stomach or diarrhoea, giving carrots to them would be simply fantastic for their digestion.

Carrots contain fibre that helps to regulate and improve it’s bowl moments. Though note down that if you are giving boiled carrots to your pet it has to be prepared specially for dogs by no addition of spices, sugar or salt as they are really harmful to your pooch.

And if it’s suffering from diarrhoea make it consume enough water to regulate carrot fibre throughout its system.

Low in calorie:

Carrots are not only packed with Vitamins they are also low in Calories and fat making it one of the best human food treats you can give to your dog. If your dog is suffering from obesity or weight gain then consult your vet if you can introduce carrot in its diet.

Carrots would help in maintaining a balance in your dog’s diet. Also, note that carrots are high in carbohydrates, so consult your vet before giving carrots to your pet if it’s on a low carb diet.

My dog is quite stubborn and resists taking baths but more than that it refuses to get its teeth cleaned, no typing of hoaxing or tricks work and many time (more than I like )end up taking it to a Vet, all the while suffer seeing it eyeing me as the enemy.

These are the times when I searched up things that I can do to at least minimize the plaque and tartar build up ( there are no alternate for never cleaning a dog’s teeth, so ‘minimizing’ it is), Carrots have rough exterior that naturally cleans dogs teeth by scraping and dislodging the unnecessary particles, giving your dog a no mess clean up.

So just Carrots?

Apart from carrots, you can also give carrot juice to your dog. Remember everything has to be given in moderation, the quantity should be limited to prevent excess intake of anything.

Carrots have natural sugar, so I you are not giving carrot pieces but instead giving it carrot juice then don’t give a large amount, as carrot juice if given in excess could be harmful to your dog.

If you are serving cooked carrots don’t add spices or salt in it. Avoid giving large chunks of raw carrot to prevent choking or any digestive problems in your dog.

Remember a dog’s body and its system is made to digest meat and protein giving something like carrots can be a challenge for you and your dog both, therefore it’s advised to monitor your dog after it has consumed something new from its regular diet.

There are also many carrot based dog products in the market which you can try after consulting your vet.

Usually, people give human food to dogs to prevent them from consuming too much of commercial dog products and treats that portray a picture of a healthy diet for pets.

Giving organic veggies or homemade dog food gives a peace of mind to dog owners like me that their pet is actually consuming something nutritious once in a while.

Carrots are one of those things that you can give to your pet a healthy treat but never replace it’s doggie food or daily diet with a single item even if it’s great for your dog’s health.

But as always consult your veterinarian before making any changes in your dog’s diet if you have any doubt in your mind.

So it’s all for you to decide what’s best for your dog, many times we find the information on the internet useful and it helps us to keep a check on our dog’s health but often making up our minds about certain human food for our dog becomes a web of confusion.

Therefore whenever you are worried about the best food for your pet always consult a Veterinarian or a professional who has a better understanding of your dog’s health.

Who doesn’t love peanuts and I am not talking about Charlie brown and Snoopy from the beloved comic strip ‘PEANUTS’, I am talking about those crunchy and chewy nuts that are loved by all (well maybe not by people who have allergies).

Peanuts are quite popular among people from salty to flavoured ones, peanuts have been around the block since forever. While being people’s favourite, it’s also one of those things that our dogs love to have when they see us eating some.

Unfortunately, usually not all nuts can be consumed by dogs and we as owners have to beware of certain kind of nuts that are toxic for our shaggy friends.

There is a lot of information available on the internet related to dogs and nuts, while some agree with giving peanuts to dog’s others definitely tend to disagree.

Read more: Is cinnamon poisionous for dogs

The truth is – well I’ll let you figure it out. While we discuss the pros and cons of dogs eating peanuts, there are certain nuts you should definitely prevent your pets from getting their paws on.

Now there is one thing that you can rest assured for – peanuts are not toxic for dogs. However, it’s no-brainer that like any other human food we have to keep a close eye on our sneaky pets to prevent them from consuming certain variety and also quantity of peanuts.

While peanuts are not toxic they do tend to be a source of fat when mixed with other ingredients to make biscuits, cookies and dog treats. So it’s important to look out for you pet before feeding it peanuts because digesting fat can be a hard task for your lovely dogs.

Find more: Can dogs eat carrots cooked

It can lead to stomach ache, indigestion, sometimes diarrhea, vomiting etc. Pancreatitis is also caused by consuming too much fat and the treatment of this is quite painful for your dog. Therefore prevention is better than cure.

So, yes you can give your dog peanuts whether it is roasted, boiled or raw but always remember to give unsalted ones which don’t contain artificial flavor or colors. Also, make sure it doesn’t have any shell particles as the rough exterior shell of peanuts can cause harm to you dog’s digestive system.

It’s a known fact for all dog owners that salt is very harmful to dogs, and if you are new to this, I am sure this information would now help you to take better care of your pet.

If you are planning to give your dog a special treat from the usual store bought ones, keep in mind to prevent adding salt as an ingredient in whatever you are preparing for you pooch.

Peanut butter contains fats that are not good for your dog since peanut butter is made for the public, they add artificial ingredients and preservatives to increase their shelf life which might be really harmful to your pet.

It can cause heart disease, diabetes etc. Always check the ingredients to know whether the peanut butter you are buying doesn’t contain trans fats or hydrogenated fats.

Most peanut butter contains sugar to balance the salty taste and while it may appeal to us, it might have an adverse effect on our dogs. Peanut butter sometimes contains xylitol as a sugar substitute which is extremely dangerous to dogs.

You can avoid buying peanut butter which contains xylitol by checking for any natural sweetener or sugar alcohol included as an ingredient.

So if by any chance if you have accidentally fed your dog peanut butter which contained xylitol then immediately take your dog to the vet and get it checked as xylitol is often fatal for dogs.

Allergies develop after repeated exposure to certain stuff due to which we become ignorant of the dangers because initially, our dogs respond well to the product.

The key to any new treat for a dog is to give it in moderation that way you can keep a check on your dog’s health if there is any sign of discomfort or sickness you can immediately stop giving them.

You must have always heard this advice that “ Don’t make it a daily habit” and that stand true for dogs too if you are planning to give your dog peanuts as a treat then don’t make it a habit remember it’s a treat not it’s daily food.

Definitely YES! It was one of the questions I asked my Vet before feeding some to my dog and I am glad I did because blueberries come under some safe berries you can feed your pet, not only are they safe but blueberries are a good source of natural nutrients like Fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Polyphenols etc. That are great for your dog’s health.

Benefits of Blueberries:

The help in improving a bunch of health problems in dogs like:

Avoids Obesity

Controls Hypertension

Lessens Memory Loss

Preventing Cancer

Infection of urinary tract

Dyslipidemia

Controls Cholesterol level

Inflammation

Lower risk of Heart disease

Increases antioxidants

Helps in fighting free radicals

So many benefits from a few blueberries that’s some great news for my dog and hopefully yours too.

Dogs, in general, love fruits and vegetables especially the ones they find us eating.

It is common and safe for us to share human food with our four legged friends but it’s also important to look out for some that we shouldn’t, that aren’t safe like my favourite chocolate (sorry buddy you can’t have some), grapes, onion, raisins, nuts etc.

Read more: Can dogs eat potatoes raw

But luckily blueberries are safe as well as healthy for our beloved pets, it is actually very beneficial for adult dogs with their memories during their ageing years.

Since blueberries are low in fat and calories it is a great fruit for dogs diagnosed with obesity or heart condition.

Blueberries have so many benefits that many dog food manufacturing companies have introduced a wide range of dog food that has blueberries as an important ingredient, and blueberries are not limited to just dog food there are many dog toys and grooming products that havei ncluded blueberry flavoured shampoo, treats and chew toys.

Blueberries are also a rich source of silicon that is great for a dog’s pancreas. All in all, blueberries are packed and stacked with natural nutrients that are awesome for your pet.

Start by feeding it 2-3 berries at a time and monitor it to see if it has any negative reaction to it, if your dog is happy and fine after a week or so, you can proceed with a few more but only after a couple of days as usually some fruits take time to show a negative reaction.

But then also don’t exceed above more than 8-10 berries as digesting it all together at a single go can be a hard task for your furry pal, let alone eating a handful. In the case of pup also limit to 2-4 and don’t exceed beyond that.

You must have heard this advice like a million time but let me repeat it for you just in case you forgot, “Don’t replace your pet’s daily food or diet with fruits, vegetable or treats”.

It’s important to know the difference between dog food and dog treat, despite of knowing and understanding the difference people are compelled to ask this question.

Because their pet either refuses to take dog food and only responds to dog treats, therefore, people try to give a blind eye to this danger in order to just see their pet eat something.

Remember dog treat like blueberries are a great source of nutrients but it still can’t compete with your dog’s fully balanced daily diet, you need to understand that even if your dog loves blueberries and follows you around for some that don’t mean you should feed it to you dog all the time or daily.

Learn more: Can dogs eat fish skin

It’s a treat keep it for giving you buddy as a reward for being good or while training to help it engage in the activities more often.

Limiting your dog’s diet to a specific fruit despite its advantage and nutritional benefits can cause some serious health issues in your pet, it might show no negative signs for a while but in the long run, you would definitely regret this decision.

So just stay away from that thought and only feed blueberries to your pet as a treat. Blueberries won’t be harmful to your pet if you feed it in moderation, a few at a time. Blueberries are rich in fibre and therefore an excess of it can affect your pal’s digestive system.

Also, consult your Vet like I did before you start feeding your dog blueberries as not all dogs are able to digest the same type of food and so it’s possible that your Vet might reject the idea of seeing your dog’s overall health.

It doesn’t need any preparation you simply clean it with fresh water and serve it raw, no boiling or cooking involved. Remember never to feed unripe or rotten fruit to your pet as this can lead to an upset stomach or sick pet.

If your dog can’t digest whole blueberries, then you can crush it or cut it in half before feeding it.

Many dog owners have shared that their young pups or dogs love to eat or chew frozen fruits during teething because they love its hard and crunchy texture.

It’s my humble advise to always consult your vet or your dog’s nutritionist before you do this as sometimes frozen fruits or vegetables aren’t the best idea because the cold temperature of the food might cause some illness in your pet if it’s not used to it.

Instead give your pet blueberry flavoured Dog chew treats that are not only tasty but also help in dental cleaning of your pet.

Now when you have finally decided to feed your pet a few blueberries go ahead and feed some. I am sure your dog would love to share a few blueberries with you and it might definitely lift your blue moods.

No, dogs can’t eat onion. Sorry, I don’t mean they can’t I simply mean they shouldn’t. Never Ever, Its a common knowledge that onions are bad for dogs but for new dog owners this is a very crucial piece of information.

I came upon this discovery when I found my dog sniffing at an onion fallen on the kitchen floor while I was cooking, usually I don’t let my dog in the kitchen and neither does my mom.

I do that in the fear of him consuming something toxic lying around in the kitchen while my mom just doesn’t like it sniffing at her for some scraps or shedding in the kitchen but as all pets are they like to wander into the no-entry zone more than anything.

Anyways, before I came to know the dangers of giving onion to my dog, I never actually gave a thought about it, in general, I mean it’s obvious the combination of dog and onion sounds not so appetising for our buddies.

Other than that, the fact that onions give bad breath makes me avoid it myself, let alone feed it to my dog whose teeth brushing is like battling with a wine stain on the carpet, hard and unavoidable.

Read more: Is cinnamon bad for dogs to eat

Usually, people don’t think in this direction because it’s not something dogs eat and also that if the ‘Toxic for pet’ list (I have one at home, you should too as it helps others who are new to your home understand your dog better in my case it’s my 6-year-old cousin who loves to treat my dog).

Says no onions that simply means no and therefore nobody tries to figure out the why and the what ifs. But what we generally forget is that most of our household cooking and recipes involve onions and giving a small helping of that food to your pooch is affecting it’s health indirectly.

This goes unnoticed because that small quantity won’t affect your dog immediately and therefore we tend to ignore the possibility that it might be affecting our dogs in the long run.

So beware, never even allow your dog to consume anything that has a hint of onion in it. Onions are poison for dogs, it affects their system and can do serious damage.

If you are debating in your mind like maybe they are similar to other human food that can be given cooked and not in a raw state, the get this cleared, no matter what kind or type of onion it is, just don’t give it to your dog. It’s a straight NO.

Find more: Can dogs eat peanuts safely

As you know most of our homemade recipes whether it’s gravy, Chinese or soups include both onion and garlic, a mixture of which is required to create the perfect aroma and taste in many dishes but this same combination can be deadly for your pet. So totally avoid giving onions or garlic to your dog.

There are many reasons for avoiding onion consumption in pets and all of them are very dangerous and I hope this helps you to understand the seriousness of this situation.

Haemolytic Anaemia is a fatal condition that is caused by onion consumption where the dog’s red blood cell are attacked by its own body and produces antibodies to eliminate them.

As scary as this sounds it’s a lot scarier when your dog suffers from it. This condition is not only dangerous but also expensive to treat.

False

The toxic element Thiosulphate present in onions can destroy your dog’s red blood cells. These same cells are responsible for delivering oxygen to their organ and brains.

In onion toxicity, haemoglobin in the red blood cells can’t carry oxygen to all parts of the body due to oxidising in which the haemoglobin are in clumps. These same clumps are called Heinz Body. Heinz Body Anaemia can make your dog’s liver weak which can affect its whole system.

The answer is you simply don’t do anything, let the professional do it. If your dog consumes poison don’t hyperventilate, take it to the nearest vet and get it treated. In most onion toxicity the time delay and late diagnosis increases the risk of your pet dying and therefore the sooner it treated the better.

Well if your pet has eaten some and you are totally clueless (This happens because most of the time there are no signs of sickness and it takes 2 -4 days for it to show up), then your dog would show signs of weakness, breathlessness, diarrhea and vomiting.

There is also change in urine colour, it might appear red, also there may be a case of discolouring of gums to yellow or it may become blue.

Some pets have known to collapse under strain during exercising like running and walking so make sure to take your pet to the Vet immediately for detoxification if this happens.

Any delay in treatment can cause serious suffering and even blood transfusion for your dog.

I am lucky that day my pet never consumed that onion, before I even had the chance of shooing him away, It just took a sniff, made a face and turned around and bounded off to get a treat from my mom but many times that’s not the case.

As dog owners we have to be extra careful towards our pets who just love to eat, cuddle and go crazy on the neighbour’s cat. So I really hope this helps you to understand your drooling friend better and take care of its health.

We have to provide a delicious diet for dog’s. I have noticed many pet parents, even if they eat very normal foods they would feed their dog the tasty and costly foods. To make a cheap and healthy diet for dog’s, just try these green bean recipes.

Soak the green beans for the whole night in cold water.

After rinsing the water, steaming the green beans must be done.

Then slice the beans and mix it with his regular diet. Provide the routine diet prescribed for his weight and then add a hand full of green beans and mix with the regular diet.

Still, if you need to make the green beans tasty, roast them without any oil, butter, cheese, onion and garlic as ingredients.

To make a perfect diet with green beans, take a hand of steamed beans. Prepare cooked chicken and brown rice. Then mix the steamed beans with the diet and serve him.

I was serving my dog with a distinct variety of feeds, especially in veggies. One of my friend from the neighboring house came and scolded.

“Why are you always serving the dog with veggies and fruits? They would love only meats.”But after he notices that my dog readily accepts the distinct veggies and fruits, he was frolicsome! He enquired that how your dog accepts veggies and fruits.

He then sorted out me a query, “can dogs eat oranges?”. Then I started answering his queries. He was interested in feeding his dog with oranges.

Now I will share the answers to you, as you also may have the query in your mind. We all are sailing on the same boat with our doggies to take great care of their healthy diet. Shall we start rowing the boat?

Do you have a query that “Can dogs eat oranges safely?”. I sort out a question for you guys. Whether the oranges you buy are injected with toxic substances, no right! Then why this chaos in your mind.

Oranges are rich in vitamin C and sugar content. One more hilarious thing about orange and doggies are, if our doggie has tasted some of the toxic substances like onion, propylene glycols, and other toxic substances, this can be given as natural medication to lower the severity level.

So daringly serve oranges to your dog, even more, specifically try it first in the summer seasons. They love juicy fruits in the summer season. Even we will love, I am sorry if your dog is a diabetic patient!

Obviously, the next query in your mind is can dogs eat peels and seeds of the orange fruit? I will answer these questions too.

Some doggie may suffer medical issues due to their age whether younger or older. You may have distinct queries like this when the doggie is under medications.

Can diabetic dogs eat salmon?

Can dogs with kidney disease eat salmon?

Can dogs with liver disease eat salmon?

Can dogs with pancreatitis eat salmon?

Your answer is very optimistic. Yes, sure you can serve the salmon fish to doggies with medical issues. But the thing is you have to spend time on cooking the salmon fish in the best manner.
